COMSATS University awards degrees to 1700 students during 30th convocation in Lahore

Rector Prof Dr Sajid Qamar promises to transform COMSATS University to meet challenges, societal needs | Dr Asad Hussain urges students to always follow right path in their whole life

The Lahore Campus of the COMSATS University Islamabad in its thirtieth convocation ceremony awarded degrees to 1700 students of engineering, business administration, architecture and design, information and scientific technology, and social sciences.

During the ceremony, 35 amongst the graduating students of Spring-19 and Fall-19 were rewarded with university and campus gold medals for exceptional academic performances in their respective departments, including Rija Ammad from Media Studies Department. As many as 21 students received their PhD degrees in engineering, management, mathematics, computer science, physics and statistics.

COMSATS University’s Rector Prof Dr Sajid Qamar joined the ceremony as the guest of honor while university’s Director Professor Dr Asad Hussain presented the welcome address. On the occasion, Dr Sajid Qamar congratulated all the future nation builders on their remarkable achievements. “I feel honored to lead the COMSATS University as rector and share with you my vision for this innovative institution of learning and development,” he said.

“In coming years, our focus will be to transform COMSATS University to meet challenges of a rapidly changing technological environment as well as societal needs through the best affordable academic programs,” he said. In short, “we envision making COMSATS as ‘the university of choice’ in Pakistan and across Asia.” He told the audience. “I invite you to explore and visit our campuses and interact with our faculty members and students, to find out what distinguishes COMSATS from other leading universities.”

In his speech, Dr Asad Hussain urged the students to always follow the right path, never let go of moral and ethical values and wished them the best for their future endeavors. He reinforced aim of the university, and the faculty to not only educate students and impart practical skills among them, but also shape their characters and groom them as individuals so they can be invaluable assets to this nation.

He also highlighted significance of research in academia, and acknowledged the services rendered by Dr Muhammad Yar, who received Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on his exceptional contribution in the field of chemistry and bio materials. Dr Muhammad Yar is serving as the Associate Professor for Interdisciplinary Research Center in Biomedical Materials at the COMSATS University. Dr Syed Muhammad Junaid Zaidi, the founding rector of the university, also shared his words of wisdom with the students.
