Four athlete sisters receive applause for winning titles, competitions

Emanuel Sarfraz announces names of Twinkle Sohail, Maryam Sohail, Cybil Sohail and Veronica Sohail as YMCA’s goodwill ambassadors to encourage others

Four athlete sisters received rounds of applause for bringing honor and pride to Pakistan by winning competitions and tournaments in different countries, according to the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA Pakistan).

A special ceremony was held at the YMCA Hall for Twinkle Sohail, Maryam Sohail, Cybil Sohail and Veronica Sohail for winning various titles and competitions of Kabbadi, power lifting and weight lifting. The YMCA announced honorary membership for these athlete sisters. Bishop of Lahore Nadeem Kamran was chief guest while National News Nama CEO Amjad Javed Khan was the guest of honor on the occasion.

Bishop appreciates YMCA’s services for young people

Speaking on the occasion, Bishop Nadeem Kamran appreciated the services of the Young Men’s Christian Association for the young people. “It is heartening to see that YMCA is giving recognition to the four Christian sisters who have made the nation proud by winning at regional, Asian and world levels in different categories of power lifting, weight lifting and kabbadi,” he said.

“Our Christian community is proud of these girls and we wish them the best. Their training and winning is not an easy task and they must be helped,” he said. YMCA General Secretary Emanuel Sarfraz said that YMCA has always backed athletes and sports people. “We makes Sohail sisters as its goodwill ambassadors so that they may encourage other young people to excel in life,” he said.

“We request Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to whom the Christian community looks with great expectations of progress and development to personally meet these athletes and help solve their problems,” he said. Twinkle Sohail, who won four gold medals in recent years, and Cybil Sohail who is also a gold medalist, explained in detail various problems that the sisters face.

It may be mentioned here that Pakistan Sports Board and other bodies do not fully fund and help the athletes. They go through the rigorous training and themselves meet all the expenses even that of the healthy diet.
